Q. How do you start the YAMN pinger automatically at boot time?

A. Become root, or sudo user.

Add a file called /etc/systemd/system/echolot.service and insert the below contents:

[Unit]
Description=Echolot YAMN Pinger Service
After=mail-transport-agent.target

[Service]
Type=simple
User=pinger
Group=pinger
ExecStart=/home/pinger/echolot/pingd start
ExecStop=/home/pinger/echolot/pingd stop

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

Save and close the file. Then do:

chmod 664 /etc/systemd/system/echolot.service

Then do:

systemctl enable echolot

For now that is all. We have enabled but have not actually started the service. 'Not just yet.
